  • Individual Counseling :  Individual counseling is a one-on-one relationship with a trained therapist.  This relationship is designed to foster change by providing a safe, warm setting for the client to share their most personal concerns.  The counselor’s job is to listen carefully to your concerns and help you reach your specific goals.  This can be done through learning new skills, changing behavioral habits, and/or learning to view the situation differently.  Some topics addressed in individual counseling include but are not limited to:

Depression

Anxiety

Low self-esteem

Childhood abuse

 Boundaries

Coping with stress
Addictions

Adolescence

Loss of a loved one

Chronic Pain

Relationship Abuse

Infertility

Personal Growth

Victim of a Violent Crime

·         Couples’ Counseling :  Couples’ counseling includes marital counseling, premarital counseling and cohabitating adults.  Couples’ counseling addresses issues including, but are not limited to: constant arguing, infidelity, intimacy problems, sexual problems, or a general disrespect in the relationship.  Through couples’ counseling, the clients will learn to communicate in a healthy, more positive manner.  A great emphasis will also be placed on the couples’ validation of each other.  Couples will learn how to support and nurture the other which should lead to greater connectedness and a deeper commitment.

·         Group Counseling :   Group counseling involves a small group of people (usually 5-8) who meet together weekly, along with one or two trained therapists to talk about their struggles and problems.  One of the primary benefits of group counseling is the giving and receiving support from other members.  In these groups, you will learn about how others see you.  You will also realize that although you feel isolated, that others share your same problems and concerns.  Group is also an excellent place to receive support from others going through a similar situation and to practice healthy communication and boundaries.

                                          Group Topics

Boundaries: How to set appropriate limits in everyday life.

Healthy Relationships: How to determine whether a relationship is good for you or not.

Survivors of Childhood Incest: Support and education on how to recover from the impact of childhood sexual abuse.

Adolescents: How to deal with peer pressure, relationships, daily stressors and impending adulthood.

Filial Therapy: A ten-week group focusing on enhancing the relationship between parent and child. Parents are taught basic child-centered play therapy techniques.

Grief: Your loss may be similar to what others have experienced but your loss is also unique. This group will help provide support and understanding on how to recover and move forward.

  • Adolescent Counseling :  At New Hope Counseling, we understand that the years before adulthood can bring a new set of issues for the teenager.  These issues include:  relationship violence, chemical dependency, low self-esteem, eating disorders, identity issues, and depression.  Through group and /or individual counseling we provide a safe place for the teen to learn about themselves and adjust to these tumultuous times.

  • Play Therapy:   Just as an adult can benefit from working with a trained therapist, so can a child.  Adults communicate primarily through verbal interactions while children communicate and process their feelings through their play.  At New Hope Counseling, we offer services for the entire family.  Our agency contracts with play therapists who can work with your child at our facility.

  • Assessment and Referral:   Once you call New Hope Counseling, you will receive a brief telephone consultation.  During this consultation, we will determine which services are most appropriate for you.  If we cannot meet your needs, we will give you an appropriate referral.

  • Seminars:   One Saturday a month, we will offer a seminar to the public on current topics and concerns.  See Seminars Page or click here.

If you are interested in any of these services, please give us a call at 972-547-1101.  If we are in session, are away from the office, we will return your call as soon as we can.  At this time, we will determine what kind of counseling would be best for you.  If you do not request a specific counselor, a counselor will be chosen for you based on your specific needs, counselors’ area expertise, fee schedule, and availability.  Each one of our counselors strives to create the best environment for facilitating personal growth and change.
